Handout for Orchid Judging
1) Judges:
The Show & Tell plants brought in by the membership are eligible for
judging. Three (3) regular judges from the board will perform the duty and
if not available at the meeting, other board members will fill in. Judges
will disqualify their own plants.
2) Criteria
The criteria for judging Show-and-Tell Table plants will be as
follows:
3) Ribbons
Ribbons will be awarded to orchids that fit the above criteria in
1st, 2nd and 3rd place (blue, red and white, respectively). Frank
Fordyce requests that his orchids be excluded from judging. Plants brought in by
that night's Speaker are to be excluded from ribbon judging.
4) Awards
The Lancer P. Smith Medallion is given to the botanical species "small
orchids" which are easily overlooked in judging larger, more
floriferous orchids. These are separately grouped and can be
considered for regular ribbon judging.
The Look What I Bloomed For The Very First Time Ribbon will be given to an orchid that has been bloomed by a novice grower for the very first time. These are separately grouped and can be considered for regular ribbon judging.
5) The Fordyce Trophy is awarded to the member who garners the most points over the calendar year.
Point System:
1st = 3 pts
2nd = 2 pts
3rd = 1 pt
LPS Medallion = 1 pt
LWIBFTVFT Ribbon = 1pt
This system may be modified only by the Officers and Board during their official monthly meeting.
